Give Them A Reason To Follow You

I had a clear picture in my head of how it all worked and after years of relentless dream-building, goal-setting and near-financial disaster from my husband’s windshield business going under, I was ready to take it to the next level.

After someone became a lead on my website, all we did was sponsor them into the business. My downline was growing rapidly but it was still taking awhile to actually get the residual commission checks.

I knew that if I could make more money right away up front I could expand my advertising even faster.

So I went to the owner of the company and asked to do something that had never been done before.

Like many companies, this one had sales training courses and other material that it typically only sold to distributors who were already in the business. But I figured that if the free content I was giving away produced such a high quality lead, charging people for additional how-to information would create an even more qualified prospect for my business.

So I asked the owner if I could buy their courses at wholesale and re-sell them on my website at retail.
I’ll never forget the conversation.

They weren’t used to selling large quantities of these and I wanted to make sure that they could handle all the orders I was going to bring them. Because of the incredible results I had been getting so far, I knew people were starving for this kind of information.

Understandably the owner thought that it was all talk. With a little chuckle he replied, “Don’t worry about that part Ann. We can handle whatever you can bring us.”

What happened next floored me. . . along with everyone else.

I was getting close to 7,000 unique new visitors to my website every day and was taking over $75,000 in orders every month.

I expected it to go well, but not that well.

Now before you think I’m getting all “hypey” on you here, there’s a couple things you should know:

To say that I was working more than full time on my business at this point would be an understatement.I had some help. I had been forced to hire a couple people just because of all the prospects who were calling and emailing me (TIP: easiest place to look if you’re in this situation is people already on your team or in your organization).

It got to the point where the company stopped posting my real numbers because I wasn’t doing it the way everyone else was being taught to do it, and they didn’t want people to ask what I was doing.

But the side effects were unavoidable. Word got around.

The only thing I was doing differently -and you can do this too- is offer people good how-to training material before you offer your primary opportunity. And when you’re just getting started, it doesn’t even have to be your content. You can use someone else’s.
Remember what I wrote in a previous post about your job is to become a producer and distributor of content? If not read that. Because content enables you to be a “rallying point” for people who need help (which is basically everyone).
If you don’t give people a reason to follow you, they’re going to follow someone else.

Understanding how to get people to follow you isn’t always obvious either. So if you’re scratching your head and saying to yourself, “Ann, this all sounds great, but … I don’t know how to get people to follow me,” just remember:
If you don’t give people a reason to follow you, they’re going to follow someone else. You can do that by creating and distributing content that is a perfect match for who your trying to attract.

Follow These Steps To Make It Easy For Your Prospects To Find You Online

The 3 steps outlined below are designed to relate to your audience first, then review a problem, or present your take on something, and last to recommend something – where you position your offer as the solution.

This is framed around the Internet, and use a video of Ann on YouTube (Relating to audience) as the example. Then I show you her (Review) content landing page that both solves a problem and presents Ann’s take on something that her audience has an interest in. For the (Recommendation) you’ll see her example for making a call to action to the Renegade Network Marketer sales page.

In a nutshell, what I’m teaching you here is how to use the Internet to make transactions.

This phrase best sums up what I’m advocating and teaching you to do:

If you’re going to use the Internet to make sales of any kind here are the 3 “web steps” to take action on:

Start with one of the biggest questions your perfect customer always has. Turn that question into a video.

We’ll be using Ann as an example..

She answered the question, “How do I be a solutions provider?” so Ann made a video about that. See it below.

Time to move one level up. Now you’re going to frame the bigger picture. In order to do that, you’ll create a post or a page at your WordPress blog that sums up your assessment of … not necessarily the question that you answered in your video, but… your top level approach to the question.

In Ann’s case, she believes that “Your business needs to be centered around you so that you have complete control over it, and in order for you to make as much money as possible, you need to develop your own business assets.”

Your business needs to be centered around you so that you have complete control over it, and in order for you to make as much money as possible, you need to develop your own business assets.

Make a confident recommendation. This is your call to action. Consider the nudge you should give your audience because you know what’s good for them. After all, you do. If you know your target market, you should know what is good for them.

Our concise call to action is located at the bottom of our landing page post. It looks like this:

Of course, the hyperlinked Get Started With The Renegade Network Marketer Today goes to our RNM sales video presentation. And that’s the gateway to making a front end sale. That front end sale means much more than just monetization, it signifies qualification. That person qualified themselves by investing their money into their education. And it’s those people that you want to work with.

1). Make a video that addresses and relates to your perfect customers number one question. In the description area of the video, link to a post or page at your blog.

2). The post or page at your blog will be your top level approach to that question. You’ll reveal a theme, rationale or a philosophy about why you stand for what you do.

3). You’ll conclude with a gentle nudge (aka call to action) leading people to your perfect solution. This should more than likely be a lead capture page, or a sales presentation, or something that they have to give something in order to get something. The reason for this is to qualify them as something you might to work with.

If you have questions or thoughts, ask them in the comments.
